The Making of Mauritius!

The Arab Sailors first discovered Mauritius. However, the first ones to occupy the Island were the Portuguese followed by the Dutch. Eventually the French were the ones who developed the Mauritius as from 1710, and the last colony to have possessed it were the British.

Mauritius Culture

Mauritius is a real melting pot of culture and religion; the main population is comprised mainly of Hindus, Christians, Muslims and Chinese. During your stay, you will certainly be fascinated by the harmonious environment and have the chance to visit temples, mosques, pagodas and churches all over the Island.

Most people here are bilingual and are equally fluent in English and French. However French and Creole remain the main languages in everyday environment. Several oriental languages as Hindi and Mandarin are widely used too.

People living in Mauritius are known as “Mauritians”. The country got its independence in 1968 and became a Republic in 1992.
